Painting Peregrinations Podcast

Welcome to the home of the Painting Peregrinations Podcast. In my podcast I have conversations with the people whose portraits I have painted or drawn. Everyone is interesting. When I paint someone’s portrait I feel like I get to know them on a deep level via their face. What I learn about a person goes into the work, their grief and joy, their life, their stories. I also talk with them about how and why I made the painting decisions that I did and how the work came together.

In the first episode I discuss 4 of my own artworks appearing in my grad show this November. I include a bit of an overview of the benefits of studying at TAFE, and how this journey of study helped me find my voice as an artist, at least for the time being. I also mispronounce chiaroscuro – apologies to my Italian friends. The music is taken from my album Lockdown Lullabies, which accompanies the COVID Corner installation (2021). I intended it as a satirical exploration of the way parents and society seek to teach lessons to or brain-wash children to adopt certain attitudes (we all do it!). You can listen to the tracks on Soundcloud here.

Our exhibition, Peregrinations, is from November 20-24 2023 at the Trapezium Gallery, Nepean Arts and Design Centre, O’Connell St Kingswood NSW.

The opening night event is Tuesday 21st November. Artist talks from 5pm, Opening from 6pm. Nina Stromqvist from Penrith Regional Gallery is our guest speaker. I hope you can make it to celebrate this milestone for Nicole Ashton and I.
